Ephesians: The Gospel in Everyday Life

4.15.18 - Ephesians 6:1-4

What we see in the second half of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians—chapters 4-6—is that the Gospel transforms our relationships! This makes sense due to the horizontal reconciliation produced by the Gospel. The Gospel brings peace where formerly division and enmity reigned. The Gospel brings sinners into a body, a family, a people—God’s church—where we are now committed to helping one another follow Jesus! This is remarkable! This week we will be looking at Ephesians 6:1-4 and how the Gospel transforms life in the home, specifically the relationship between parents and their children. Spirit-filled children are to honor and obey their parents because of their allegiance to Christ as King! This is right, and in accordance to God’s design. Spirit-filled parents, led by Spirit-filled fathers, are to bring up their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. If we were going to sum this up we might say that in the Christian home, because of the Gospel, Spirit-filled children are to come under the loving authority of Spirit-filled parents committed to their discipleship. The home, because of the Gospel, should be a place where the Gospel is modeled, proclaimed and lived out!
