The Psalms: Patterns for Prayer & Pointers to Christ

6.3.18 - Psalm 3 - From Woe to Worship

How do you typically deal with difficulty, pain and opposition? Do you personally shoulder the burden or do you call out to the Lord, trusting Him to move, guide and provide? Psalm 3 is a lament psalm, a psalm that generally moves from woe to worship. The key is identifying what enables the psalmist to move from woe to worship. In Psalm 3, it is David's right view of God and his trust in the Lord's promises. David acknowledged the Lord as King, as the One who protects, and as the One who gives justice to His people! As we see toward the end of our psalm, this right view of God-coupled with his trust in the Lord-transformed David! It enabled him to truly rest (vs. 5) and pray God's blessing upon his enemies (vs. 8). What a beautiful picture of the Gospel! Those who have called out to the Lord for rescue from sin have reason to continue calling out to the Lord in the midst of hardship and pain. May our first response to crisis be to confidently call out to the Lord-resting in His work, trusting in His promises and finding peace in His presence!
